I have a 1999 Ford Ranger 4X4 with a 3.0L .Anyone know Why my Speedometer isn't working .I just recently changed the Speed Control Sensor and that didn't seam to cure the issue. Any help or Ideas would be great. thanks.

I have the same problem. On my '99 Ranger. Prior to it giving up on me, It would only work when I got up to around 40 mph. A couple of days after it failed on me, the check engine light came on. Anyone know if this has anything to do with it? Truck seems to drive ok.

I have same on my 2000 Ranger. Started engine and noticed ABS light stayed on. Then noticed speedometer not working. Later found that at about 58MPH, speedometer started kicking and then worked normally, but below 58MPH, drops to zero. Cruise control also not working. Removed speed sensor...looked normal but don't know how to check. Cleaned connections and put back on but still same symptoms.

As a follow-up, I replaced the rear axle speed sensor and it fixed the problem. I had been reluctant since several posts had said replacement did not fix problem. Part was only $13.99 at NAPA. Incidentally, they couldn't find it under "Speed Sensor". It was called "ABS Sensor". If it helps anyone, My bad one was open circuit when tested with an ohmmeter, while the good one read resistance. Sorry that I didn't pay attention to exact value.Also, my check engine light never came on as some posts have experienced.
