Suspicious behavior from my 2000 Ford Ranger..
I've had some behaviors from my ranger. First off, my check engine light and abs light come on sporadically. And on certain occasions my speedometer fails to work. On a couple occasions when I went to apply the brake, it would not brake unless I put an unusual amount of pressure on the brake petal, then shortly after the abs light would illuminate. I just got brand new tires put on, as the two front tires were worn to the wire, but only on the inside tread. (from the middle of the tread out, the tread was in good shape.
Also, I've heard I strange clanking noise at random times. It almost sounds as if something is dragging from the bottom of the truck. (similar to the sound of aluminum cans dragging underneath the vehicle) Then it will just suddenly stop as quickly as it starts. The other night when I was forced to slam on brakes to avoid a deer, the i heard it, stopped, and looked under the truck, and I could not locate anything dragging. It seems to happen when accelerating from 1st to 2nd gears only.
I'm not sure if this all is related somehow. It been suggested to me that some sort of sensor needs replacing, or perhaps the master cylinder.
PS. When I just got the vehicle, I had a problem where the interior light would fail to go off when the car was off, and the switch was set to the OFF position. After having to take out the fuse after exiting the car for a number of months, it stopped doing it by itself, and hasn't done it since.
Any help with any of these issues would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Chris
