Tapping sound in front end.

This tapping sound is noticed at 25-30MPH, and is not related to engine or truck speed. It does NOT occur when brakes are applied and slowing. It will occur if the truck is rocked side to side while stopped.

Any ideas?

Re: Tapping sound in front end.

I think I am having the same problem and I believe it is the bearings or ball joints in the steering. I have to replace the boots around mine and while I am at it I will inspect the bearings and if this fixes the problem I will repost

Re: Tapping sound in front end.

A worn timing belt will tick. That's what mine did before it took a dump.

Rocking side to side? Sounds like bearings to me.

Re: Tapping sound in front end.

i had that happening in an older ranger i had and the ball joints where out in it. But for your truck the things to check would be check the shocks make sure they are not loose and then check the balljoints upper and lower and see if they are wore also you could check the sway bar on the front end and the outter and inner tierods

Re: Tapping sound in front end.

Have a look at the stabalizer bushings.
Mine were worn and the bar would move and cause a rattle.
The bushings are split. I removed them, held them in a vice and passed a hack saw through the slot.
Reinstalled them using a shim between the bushing and frame.

Good grief I just looked at the original date.

Re: Tapping sound in front end.

it also could be ur tie rod ends. if u can get ur truck on a jack check the tie rod ends. if they are bad ur tire will wiggle from side to side u will know if there bad.
