I'm concerned that the universal joint on my 1998 Ranger is going bad.

I've been getting a squeaking/squealing noise in my back end. It's only when I accelerate, and never while I'm coasting or idling. The noise seems to be coming from the right rear, but it could be in the middle of the back end.

Is that the universal? I thought initially it might be the brakes or wheel bearings going bad, but they'd make noise continuously, not just when I have my foot on the gas.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

can u hear a clunking noise when u get back on the accelerator?..if so, u have a bad u-joint, one thing u can do, make sure its not sitting on a hill, put it in nuetruel, climb under and grab ya driveshaft (s) and shake them, try and move them back and forth, u shouldnt have no movement there
