First of all, hey everyone!....I'm in the market for a Ford Ranger, and what to know what to look for & what are the better models. I'm looking at 2003 onwards....questions:

1. I want 4x4, but is it reliable, is it better to get 4x2?
2. Is the 3.0L V6 more efficient or the 4.0L V6? & what kind of milage can I expect to get from a tank of gas?
3. Is there any things that I should look for that are inherent problems with Ford Rangers?
4. What are the transmissions like? is manual better than automatic? (I mean, what is better for lasting longer in the truck)
5. Is Flare side available after 2002?

I really appreciate any help anyone can give me & hopefully look forward to being a contributer in the future!!!!

1. 4x4 is reliable if you switch out the hubs for manual
2. 3.0 is slightly better gas mileage wise 22.5 vs 19.5 with a little less power
3. aside from schedule maintenance. shift rail plugs leak but are cheap to fix (and better if you want manual transmission to last) 3.0 main seals on oil pan tend to leak. auto locking hubs are worthless.(4wd)

4 manual trans mission is just as reliable as the auto if both are maintained and operated properly but manual is cheaper to fix when it is time to replace clutch. then the auto is to be rebuilt. manual is better for engine power and gas mileage but not optimum if you tow boats out of lakes.

5 dont know. look up auto classifieds to see if there are any listings for flaresides.
