Was watching a documentary (for the third time), "Who Killed the Electric Car" and I noticed something I hadn't before. Ford had a fully electric Ranger. Did they colect them all up and crush them like GM did to the EV1? Are there any still in existence?
I just bought a second Ranger (1992), I drive a 92 now and the second one is this summers conversion to elecric project.
Just found it curious that the car/truck companies had these electric carts and I cannot seem to buy one.
I still have an early hybrid that runs electric with gas assist (when the battery dies), now they are gas with electric assist. Seems to me these companies are going backwards.
Additional Info:
The
Ford Ranger EV (Electric Vehicle) is a
battery electric vehicle produced by
Ford Motor Company. It was produced starting in the 1998 model year through 2002 and is no longer in production. It is built upon a light truck chassis used in the
Ford Ranger. A few vehicles with
lead-acid batteries were sold, but most units were leased for fleet use. A few persistent and interested private parties were able to obtain leases over a period of three to five years. All leases were terminated in 2003-04, and the vehicles were recalled and crushed.
