why does ranger only start if i turn the steering wheel?

replaced the ignition switch(under dash on column) and sometimes it starts right up,other times it just clicks and if i turn the wheel to a "sweet spot" it starts...

One of the "start" interlocks aren't making, sounds like it's in the steering column. What's the year?

Ever notice that there's so many high performance parts available for GM products?

Did you ever think that maybe they NEED them?
