Sounds like a great idea, opportunity to meet the faces and cars behind the nicks.

Im sure there should be some Newy FPV-Tickford members interested in a run/meet, and this would fit in well being a week after the Dyno Day our branch is hosting.

I'll pull some strings from my end to see who is interested from our branch.

Cheers

Re: 6 Monthly Trip to Sydney/Newcastle

I definitely won't be able to make the 10 to 1030 start time, but if I can get away from work earlier on Saturday morning, I'll meet you guys in Newy.

Another option is straight run up freeway to Peats Ridge then some twisty bits that I'm sure most of you Sydney fellas wouldn't have been on before.
The route I'm talking about has a fair mix of both twists/bends/climbs/drops etc as well as open sweeping stuff
From Peats Ridge would prob make a 2 1/2 hr drive comfortably to Newcastle (a few areas available for picnic/bbq etc)

My vote is for a run up the old pacific hwy from berowra to Gosford then hit the old F3 for the drag into Newy
I second Aaron's motion. Always good to have a high speed dash (and teh occasional rolling XR road blocks) after some hard twisties good mix i reckon.

DannyQ,
Didn't i remember you fitting the very rare but option XW RO pack, known as the "Roundabout Option" pack to prevent the rear over taking the front. :wnc::wnc:

Re: 6 Monthly Trip to Sydney/Newcastle

Happy either way, lets get to the bbq early enough though so that we can have a game of 3FB test match cricket. I can't wait to see 3Toed dancing down the wicket to hit a four.

Is it bring you own barbie (no not the doll) or will we end up at a place that has them?

Working on finding a location with in place BBQ's for use by the public. If I can find a decent one it will be just bring the utensils, the food and probably something to clean the BBQ plate with.

Final Cruise Details!

Okay, spoke to a few people and did some calling around yesterday and have got a plan for the day mapped out.

We had some trouble sorting out a nice BBQ area in the Newcastle foreshore area, so I’ve gone in a different direction for the final route.

MEETING POINT:
9:30am, Silverwater Boat Ramp, off Silverwater Rd, Silverwater.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FULL TANK OF PETROL BEFORE THE RUN STARTS!

To get to the boat ramp, you must turn into the road at the Clyde St traffic lights just before the southern end of the Silverwater Bridge, which is prominently signposted as “Bus Only”. The Bus Only road actually starts about 30 metres in, PAST the left turn into the access road for the boat ramp parking area. This is a HUGE parking lot so there should be no trouble with parking no matter how busy the day is. (See insert map 1)

DEPATURE:
Leave at 10am SHARP. Head north over river to end of Silverwater Rd. Turn right into Kissing Point Rd, follow until left turn into Marsden Rd. Next is Right turn onto Pennant Hills Rd at Carlingford. Follow Pennant Hills Rd to start of F3 Freeway, turn right onto Freeway.

Follow Freeway north. (see map 1 below for route details)

MAP 1

At the Calga Interchange we will leave the Freeway and head off on the old road to Peats Ridge where we will stop for 5 minutes to regroup.

From there is a couple of kays North to Central Mangrove, then on to Kulnura via George Downes Drive. From there we head on to Wollombi Historic Village. I can’t say I know anything about this place, but we may stop for a little while to have a look if it seems interesting. That is something we can all decide on during the day.

From Wollombi, we take take the Wollombi Rd through Millfield and Bellbird to CESSNOCK (see Maps 2 & 3)

LUNCH:
Lunch will be held at the Cessnock Hotel (234 Wollombi Rd, Cessnock). After speaking to the Hotel’s ‘Kurrajong Restaurant’ yesterday I can tell you they have both an a-la-carte restaurant and a café, either of which would seat our regular numbers with no problems, and a large off-street parking area behind the Hotel.

I will need final numbers for lunch by the evening of Wednesday 24th so I can call and make a booking. They told me the Bistro is open Saturdays from 11:30am and stays open all afternoon, but I will make the Lunch booking for 1pm.

AFTER LUNCH:
After lunch we head off to Kurri Kurri via Maitland Rd, Cessnock Rd and Northcote St. We then turn right into Mitchell Ave, which changes name along its’ length to Victoria St then Tarro St.

Then it becomes Mulbridge St & finally John Renshaw Drive (which was once the old road from the end of the Freeway to Beresfield). This will lead us through the big roundabout at the end of the F3 Freeway. From here we continue past the BP servo & Hungry Jacks, over the bridge onto the New England Highway and past the Hexam Bridge on our way into Newcastle.

We’ll follow this road all the way into Newcastle, drive past the foreshore and stop at one of the car parks, preferably around the Eastern Promenade/Horse Shoe Beach area, but if that’s too crowded, head around to the old stand-by at Bar Beach.

MAP 3

That’s the end of the organized cruise, though I’m sure we’ll and sit around chatting for a while, then we can sort out who’s heading where and come back in groups or make our own way home at the end of the day.

Please post your interest here and let me know confirmed numbers for lunch ASAP.

Cheers

I presume you turn left at Clyde St if you're driving southbound on Silverwater Rd to get to the boatramp? Never been there before so just want to check.

As for lunch, count me in! :hy:

Re: 6 Monthly Trip to Sydney/Newcastle

Me me me, yeap the Silverwater boat ramp is a good meeting spot for the sydney and surrounds people.

Count me in as a definite for this outting. I'm just hoping (after last nights 3fb board discussion at Darling Harbour) that we don't get caught in heavy traffic since it will be the start of the school holidays. It makes sense to book a place for a feed as we don't have to sacrific unsprung weight of bbq gear etc around twisties.

Can i stress, that anyone who has a CB to bring it on the day, very useful to co-ordinate a big group cruise and round up a few who get left behind.
3FB Channel is 10.

Re: 6 Monthly Trip to Sydney/Newcastle

Does anyone know how long it will take from St Clair to Silverwater ??????????

Gary ......CB's or UHF's ???????? I will have my UHF & this time the hand piece works :p

Ohhhhh forgot last time ........please book for 4 of us for lunch ;)

#49 · (Edited)
Radio3FB is UHF channel 10.

If you take the M4 Motorway (and pay the toll) St Clair to Silverwater is about a 20-30 minute trip depending on traffic. If you leave between 9:00 - 9:15 you should get to the boat ramp well before 10am.

I'm presuming - based on every other pub I've ever been to - that the restaurant is okay for the Kids MN as long as they stay out of the bar and the pokies area (but I will call and double check for you).

As Strider pointed out, we were reminded last night that Saturday 27th is the first day of school holidays, so traffic on the first part of the trip will probably be heavy. At worst it will probably thin right out as we turn off the freeway at Calga.

To keep a running tally on the lunch numbers (which I'll update here as we get confirmations):

CONFIRMED
MN + 3
3Toed
Strider
JR
XR6HP01 + 1
Wulos
Blurter
Sticky Date
Little Dates (x2)

TBC
Bluedriver
Mini Blues (x2)

What time approx will you be near the bp/hungry jacks because i could meet up with everyone there
If lunch is in Cessnock at 1pm, I'd guess at this stage that it would be sometime between 2:30 - 3:00pm.
