FPV&XR Car Club-SA “Off with the Ferries” cruise
The FPV&XR Car Club-SA held its "Off with the Ferries" cruise yesterday Sun 4/5/03, we met at the Frewville Shopping Centre for a 9.45am departure. With 100% attendance once again, we headed up the freeway to Mt Barker, where we turned off and headed for the first ferry of the day at Wellington, cruising through Wistow, Woodchester and Langhorne Creek, and I have to say the road from Wistow to Wellington would have to be the best cruising road in SA, smooth, wide and great curves, corners and cambers.
We crossed the Murray on ferries at Wellington and Tailem Bend, and then headed to Murray Bridge for some lunch at Sturt Reserve.
From Murray Bridge we went on to Mannum and the house boat show there, but we dont think house boats are for us as the boats dont have any car parking facilities for the cars........
After crossing one ferry to get to Mannum and then over the second ferry to leave Mannum, it was on to Purnong for the next ferry crossing.
At the next crossing at Walkers flat, we stopped for an ice cream and to watch a bus get stuck driving on to the ferry, this was very interesting to watch the ferry driver and bus driver get the bus onto the ferry and then to watch the front of the ferry rise up out of the water and crash down again as the bus drove on.
From Walkers Flat it was a fast cruise to Swan Reach where an enjoyable afternoon tea was partaken.
Then it was over the last ferry for the cruise and we headed of to Nurioopta for a great tea at the Vines Hotel, and then a night cruise home.
The kids were given a quiz to do during the day and watching the ferry drivers faces as a horde of kids decended upon then to get their names and details of the ferries was hilarious.
Once again the day was a mind blower and the club members had a ball, with many of them saying they had not experienced anything that was so much fun, when involved with other clubs, so we must be doing something right.....
Stay tuned for the FPV&XR Car Club-SAs next adventure.
