This one time...at Wakefield

Me and a couple of friends decided to take Tuesday off work and head down to Wakefield Park for a bit of a hoon. So, while it continued to rain in Sydney, it stopped in Goulburn at around 11:00 AM and started to dry out.

So, anyway, if you wanted to know how Wakefield looks when it's bucketing down then take a look here.

My buddy Pete who owns a WRX had a great idea to make a camera mount that bolts onto one of the child restraints on the rear parcel shelf. This is version 1.0 and as such it didn't fit into Paul's Skyline and we didn't have Allen keys to mount it in my car. Service Pack 1 willl fix both of those issues.

Because of the weekday and the lovely weather we had the place to ourselves. Well, almost. There was an open wheeler there for tuning and practise so it was the old 20 minutes on/20 minutes off rule. Here we are chilling out while the open wheeler has a go.

Still chilling. Damn 20 minutes is a long time when you have to wait for your turn.

And last but not least, here's the open wheeler that prevented us from having a monopoly over the track.

Interesting is an understatement!

Some fun facts about my Falcon:
No ABS
No LSD
Front tyres are OK
Rear tyres are getting bald and due for replacement soon

All this on a wet track: priceless!

Sorry, couldn't help it. But it was a great day. It stopped raining and dried up so it was good fun.

The cost is as follows:

Wakefield Club Comp Club Licence: $27.50
Cost to drive your car on the track: $71.50
Helmet hire if you don't have your own: $20 + $50 deposit

The Licence lasts 12 months but you also need it just to go out as a passenger in someone else's car.

The guy told me that the helmets are around $120 to buy. Not too bad.

There's even a fast food canteen at the track so you don't have to waste valuable track time driving the 10 km back into Goulburn for a feed.

I'm hoping to get some of the video footage into MPEG format soon and I'll post some of the more interesting stuff here.

Here's Wakefield's web site for more info on the track, availability, etc...

Only buy a $120 helmet, if you have a $120 head!

Yep, good point, but am I right in assuming that in a car you wouldn't need as a good a helmet as for a motorbike? Do you have any recommendations on which helmet/type/price to get?

Since I've only been to the track a few times I just hire it there.
