92 topaz idle

i have a 92 topaz that idles between 2ooo and 2500 rpm, i was told if i pinch off the vaccum line that runs into the intake below the iac sensor and the idle returned to normal it was the sensor, well i did and it does, does that mean the sensor is bad or am i just drawing straws. thanx

Re: 92 topaz idle

Replacing the sensor won't hurt. To have the vehicle idle that high isn't good as if it suges forward (sensor completely dies) you won't be able to keep the vehicle stopped via brakes when in gear. I had a similar problem with an old '92 Dodge Spirit of mine. Great car, but it nickled and dimed me so much that I sold it and bought a '93 lol.
