92 Topaz won't start up after sitting for an hour - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

Starts the first time with no problem, runs ok, but after sitting an hour while I'm in the store it won't start up again. Takes quite a few tries to get it going again. Any ideas? My mechanic is stumped.

Could be about anything. Is there a check engine light? Do you hear the fuel pump prime? Does it turn over and not fire?

My gut reaction is a fuel pump, but without more information it's hard to say.

It just won't turn over. No check engine light or anything. Weird thing is it will start just fine no matter what the weather or how long it's been sitting, until you drive someplace and let it sit for an hour. You'd think we'd have more problems starting it after it sat in the cold damp garage for a few days, but it will start just fine, go for a ride, stop at the grocery store, come back out and it won't start up again.

Still sorta sounds like a fuel punp. One other thing you can try is put it in netural and try to start it.
