'94 tempo engine races

The engine races on my '94 tempo from the time I start it. so much so that I am afraid to put it in gear, and if I do there's no stopping. Checked the idle sensor, and it's good. The idle screw is not even touching the little plate. Can't find any vacuum leaks. What am I missing?

Re: '94 tempo engine races

Stuck cable on accelerator? Throttle position sensor loose or bad? Throttle plate sticking?

Re: '94 tempo engine races

check everything the fonz stated and also remove the air hose from the throttle body, is you throttle plate stuck open a lil.
ford dosent recomend ever cleaning them but if its getting stuck open you have no choice.
a vacume leak is probable but from what you said about the idler pin never touching the metal in its home position, it sounds like 1 either the t.b. is plug up and needs cleaning around where the plate rests, or 2 the throttle cable is sticking.
if that is the case you need to disasembel the upper half of it until you can expose the cable and its casing only.
a shot of wd 40 will smooth it out but not forever. packing grease in thair is the only permenaint cure.
