i dont know if its the fuel pump or the relay. but some times when i try to start the car i dont hear the fuel pump and the car will not start. then when i hear the fuel pump the car starts. i dont know what to do? a new fuel pump is 160$ and i dont want to get it if its the relay. its a 94 tempo with a V6. can any one help!

have you checked the voltage going to the pump? Have you checked the connections at the relay? have you tested voltage through the relay? There are a lot of things that you can do to test this out.

If you dont want to test it out then you can just replace the relay, if that does not cure it then you can replace the pump. If that does not cure it, then it could be a simple bad wire.

Get a voltmeter and test the lines. If you do not have one you can pick one up at autozone. They are not that expensive. Some diagnostic work is going to have to be performed by you, unless you want to pay someone else to do it.
