Thumbs down Don't buy GM's!!!!!!!!!

Well... My girlfriend and I went camping in Michigan this weekend. When we got back, she gets in her 2000 Pontiac Sunfire, which has been sitting in the garage all weekend, starts it, and it dies after about 5 seconds! We checked it all out, all of the fuses were ok, and the "Passlock" or whatever GM calls their starter disabler was not active. But...when you turned the key to "on", you couldn't hear the fuel pump. She called the GM roadside assistance and they fed her some bull about the alarm being on, and that she needed to reset it by leaving the car on for 30 minutes. What a load of bull! Didn't work. We tried everything! So, she called them again and had the piece of junk to a dealer. She waited 5 hours for a truck! And, when we rolled it out of the garage, their was a huge oil spot! My 89 Tempo with over 76000 miles doesn't even leak oil. Anyway, she calls the dealer this morning, and their like, "what the hell are you talking about, it starts just fine!!" Geez.....what a piece of crap!

Yeah, GM electronics and wiring havn't improved alot over the years. My '01 Montana has had a few electrical gremlins since the day I bought it. The EGR valve went about a month after buying it and the low oil light comes on for 2 min after startup. They replaced the sensor but it didn't help. I just live with it because I'm afraid it they'd make it worse trying to fix it. And just a couple days ago, the the drivers door control switch for the passenger side window stopped working intermittantly. But I'm going to wait until it quits altogether because if I take it in now, I'm sure it will work just fine for them.

I'm not saying the van is a POS(i really like the van), but you'd think after 100 years of building cars they'd have these problems ironed out by now.

and from the other end...

My grandmother has bought GM since the late 70's. She first bought a crap-ugly maroon 78 Malibu 4-door. It was a tank. Mechanically, the car never had a problem. She traded it in in 1988 for an 88 Dark Grey Chevy Celebrity with the 2.8V6/auto. The only problem she ever had with it was the ECU went out after 120K miles on it. She finally traded it in on a 99 Chev Malibu, only because the head cracked on the celebrity after 195K miles. So far, no problems at all with the new Malibu.

oh, one more thing....

another little thing that the dealer refuses to fix on my girlfriend's sunfire...
Her car has traction control...and it has a little switch that's supposed to say "ETS" or something like that. But...instead it has the fog light symbol on it! Fog lights are only available on the GT sunfires after 2000, and her car is definitely not the GT. We took it to the dealer, showed them the picture in the owner's manual, and asked them nicely to put the right switch in. They said that it doesn't make a difference, and that it was no big deal. My girlfriend just gave in. But when she tries to sell that car, she might run into problems. Goofy, goofy I tell you!!!
