I have a 1992 Topaz 4cyl 5spd, i'm not getting power to the fuel pump and i need to check the fuel pump relay and i was hoping someone might be able to tell me where it is located, i can't seem to find it.
anyhelp would be great

The relay itself is part of the IRCM (integrated relay control module) which is under the dash somewhere I believe... Something else you should look at though is the fuel pump cutoff switch behind the carpeting on the driver's side of the inner trunk. It may have been tripped, cutting power to the fuel pump.

Fortunately, before dropping the gas tank and and removing the fuel pump, I was searching forums for the location of the fuel pump relay when I came across your post. I immediately went out and found the fuel pump cutoff switch in the trunk, reset the switch and she started right up.
You saved me about 8-10 hours of labor, 100 bucks for parts and a couple of headaches. Very much appreciated. Do you accept donations?

That is all fine and dandy. What tripped the impact switch in the trunk ? They don't trip
by themselves. You didn't fix anything. you just reset a tripped switch. What tripped it ?

I am very frustrated here... i just changed the "black box" and i am still not getting power to my fuel pump...please someone give me some advice

The impact switch is purely a mechanical device. The only input it reacts to is sudden rapid movement. The sudden rapid movement could be an accident, could be a pothole, it could even be a trunk lid or door slammed too hard.

It's a very simple device and a very easy thing to check. Many Tempo/Topaz owners have assumed that a non-working fuel pump was something more serious, which it could be, and were saved many hours and dollars by a simple press of the reset button.

Always start with the simple stuff. Push the button, if that doesn't clear the problem, then move on to more serious electrical diagnosis and repair.

The relay is located inside the trunk, left hand side, between the outside skink and the frame. You have to remove the trunk coverings, just as you would if you had to replace the tail lights. Do the left side competly. You will see the e shut off about 10 inches up from the floor, on that bracket on the left.
