Ok.. did that. Also ran to the store with it, (half a block away).. Let go right to the top of the hot range on the dashboard.. Nothing. I had to kick in the heater to cool things down.
I may have found the answer to the problem though, thru another person.
First the AC system has not worked in 4 years, and I do not hear the AC pump cycling at all. My friend who is an industrial electrician, was looking at his hayes manual, as his wife had a tempo of the same year. He is telling me that the 92 models have their cooling fan system tied into the AC system and that for the radiator fan to work properly the AC system must also work properly, as the fan does not kick in untill a specific "state" occures. With the AC system not working properly, the computer does not see that the fan needs to be turned on, because it is dependant upon the AC system.
My Code reader is giving me a 33 code, EGR canister or valve not working properly. This may contribute to the problem.
Now I can get some stuff to recharge the system with, but it will be an R-12 equivilent, called freeze 12, found at
freeze12: Quick Charge Kit Plus= (add that last = sign to the addy.)
If I do that, it might work for a day, for a month, or not at all.
The car has over 250k on it. The bottom of the back left side rear wheel well has started to rust out, and in sealed with expanding foam and some well placed shaped peices of wood, with about 12 coats of paint and sealant.
The dashboard vents are not working either. last year we replaced the entire shifter mechinsim, including the cable, (automatic) that sits on the floor between the 2 seats.
I need to replace this car, but michigans economy probbaly won't allow it, and so I am in a situation where I need to decide if its better to dump money into it, or to just save it to buy another car.. oh and im collecting unemployment which means I barly have enough to live on.
My friend suggested I just cut one of the wires going to the thermostat tempature gage, and put in a toggle switch in the car under the dash, so that I can just toggle it, to make it think I pulled the wires off the sensor when the car gets too hot, as that will make the fan kick in under current conditions.
either that or I spend the 300 bucks to convert it over to r143 system. Again, the car might last a week or a month. It is definatly worn out and a winter beater at best..
