The other day while driving into town my Tempo had a 'hesitation', the tach spiked and the engine stopped for about 5 seconds and then resumed running. I was low on fuel so didn't think anything of it really, the tach and car idle has quite often done these strange little jumps while parked. I filled the tank and on my second trip on the highway (speed 110 kmph) the car did the same hesitation but did not come back, the car died on the side of the road. After towing it home we have checked and the pump is turning in the tank when the ignition is turned, the fuel filter is clean and the only code we got off the chip is for the low fuel indicator...the engine turns over but doesn't catch, we checked the distributor and wires (not the plugs yet) everything has power to it and seems to be okay. Anyone have any other ideas about my POS and what we should be checking?

check the injectors. you could have a clogged injector. Check plugs and wires. you can tell a lot when you pull the plugs.
