So, I am your average 17 year old who knows nothing what so ever about cars. But today while waiting in line at the gas station I pulled into the pump put my car(93 Ford Tempo) into reverse and there was a loud noise and smoke came from what someone said as "Under my car", but for me it looked a little more from the hood. I then drove it a block where I could check my fluids without being yelled at by angry people who want cheap gas. My oil was fine, my transmission fluid was a little low. And my coolant was fine except it looks a little dirty. We have a 1996 Subaru and I remember seeing tinted coolant and was told that was a blown head gasket. Does anyone know what might be wrong. Oh, and I drove it home from town and that is 40 miles and my car did fine, no problems what so ever. Thanks for your help, this really is a head scratcher for me.

what colour was the smoke and what did it smell like?

Cronicus

white = oil
black = carbon/unburnt fuel
blue = rings
lightish blue and white smoke can be a bad valve problem.
