hello,

friend has 90 topaz. sometimes it runs fine but other times something is definitely malfunctioning.

the idle will be really low, it sometimes stalls at stop. also it has a hard time shifting from 3 to 4. any ideas? (EGR valve or sensor of some sort?)

thanks for any ideas on what to check first...

Yes, the check light comes on and red amp+- light comes on.

hello again,
just drove my friend's car. it does just die for no reason the check light does come on before it dies, but the amp light comes on because it dies...

did it a couple of times when i drove it. it starts right back up though. also seems to only be in drive stopped. putting it in neutral and stopping seems to be ok.
RPM's seem ok too....

do those cheap computer analyzers work...i have seen them at the autoparts store for about $35 (starting anyway)?

Sounds to me like a possibe throttle Position Sensor to me. It jsut dies at idle? (like at a light, or in the driveway?)

Can you adjust the idle up at all and see if this helps to fix the problem?

It just dies at idle randomly (at lights, etc).

The weird thing is that the idle is fine up to the point it dies. It then just cuts out. I can try to turn the idle up but I don't think that is the problem.

Checking the TPS is a good idea!
