ok among my many problems with this car this one mainly concerns me. my 1992 mercury topaz gs idle fluctuates. it does not to this all the time or everyday but enough to concern me. it mainly does it when i am at a stop light and in gear although it has done it in every gear (except reverse). i first attributed it to low tranny fluid considering it leaks pretty bad but it also does it when fluid level is sufficient. normal idle is around 800. it will either seem like it boggin out. (800 rpm down to 650) or it will just fluctuate wildly (800rpm - 1200) also i have many other problem. my rear windows dont wanna work at all. and my driver window i cant put all the way down or else it wont go back up. i have done that a few times on accident and when i slam the door then it will seem to go back up not problem. and my pass window wont go up at all but will go down so i must drive with it locked all the time so noone puts it down on me. there are other issues (none really mechanical) that i am confident i can solve myself if i put time into it. but if anyone has any ideas on any o these issues please let me know. thanks

Replacing the IAC (idle air controller) should solve the idle problem. As for the windows, you're probably out of luck here and will be better off replacing the motors in the windows. Frequent door slams and driving over bad roads for a decade and a half can take their toll. It can be done by yourself, just remove the inside panel (generally just plastic pins hold it on), and peel back the vapour barrier so you can get at the internals. Look for anything else that may be out of place, as you mentioned that one window won't go up willingly. You can test the rear window motors to see if they're burned out. Kids have a tendancy to kill power windows, as they're a fun toy on even short trips.

you can unbolt the IAC and clean it with carb cleaner. many times it is oil and carbon gunking up the plunger inside it not allowing it to work right.

Anyone got a diagram to locate the IAC?

the IAC is bolted to side of the throttlebody with a pair of 8mm bolts.
