In SMH today, Peter Mackay mentions that this years Brutes will be lighter, faster, cheaper and different this year.
What changes are they making? and how far off the stock street spec are they?
Not a great deal is changing the Fords will still all be AUs even tho some have BA body work. The main changes are a new 17" by 8" control wheels, upgraded brakes & side exiting exhausts.
I thought Luff had been winning the last 2 years in the Falcon, infact he did last year.
Many Falcon podium finishes all through the year. Its not a Commy feast at all.
the boss of procar only made these upgrades to make the holden more competitive I.E the standard monaro would not stand a chance so he and his board of directors let in 7L monaro and Brock to draw some crowds. the SS ute has lost 2 years in a row to the XR8 and by decent margins to, so he will try and do something about this.
yeah ford won, dunno where ppl are saying holden etc are winning, fords had plenty of podiums,i dont care much for the technical side of racing the biff n barge is all desire,BRING ON 2004 championship.
From what I've seen both utes are quite even, sure there is a little variation from track to track, but generally it comes down to the driver, what position they draw on the grid and who is affected by the carnage.
Besides Luff, what other front-running drivers have moved on to bigger & better things?
*Holden Have 5.7L V8 - Ford Have 5.0L V8
*Holden have a 6 speed Man - Ford have 5 speed Man
*Holden have IRS - Ford have lelf springs
*Holdens are lighter
*Holdens have more Top end speed. - I seen the Utes at Queenlands and the Holden had heaps more top speed than the Fords
*Holden can use full VY spec utes that have 245kw. Fords V8 by herrod has 250kw.

Except for the part where there are parity adjustments to bring down the power of the holdens and bump up the power of the fords...
also add to that the fact they are racing on smooth racetracks and leaf springs are not so much of a disadvantage cos there isn't too much issue with rough/broken surface to unsettle the car...
Yep, both have 240kW stated, although I'd say the Holdens are better at the top end and Fords at bottom end so that at fast tracks (PI, QR) the Holdens have a marginal advantage. Then again some circuits suit the Ford more, also there are the front-end variations as they use stock suspension configuration. Also I'd doubt the Holdens would ever use the moon-shot 6th gear so it's hardly an issue.
all down to the driver, always will be,unless the car is a P.O.S with problems (setup)they are suprisingly close..holden has a tiny bit more power in straight line though..
