Honda has bought a 40 per cent chunk of Formula One team BAR, numerous media outlets claimed on Wednesday. Brackley-based BAR, presently owned by British American Tobacco, agreed a deal - said to involve the handover of a non-controlling stake of the shareholding - to the Japanese carmaker.

It is also reported that David Richards will make way for a new Honda-appointed team principal -- Nick Fry. "There is nothing we can say at this stage," Fry was quoted as saying in a BBC article.

BAR shareholder and co-founder Adrian Reynard, though, denied that the subject of a sale to Honda was brought up at the last board meeting.

But he said he would be 'totally supportive' of the reported buy-out.

hmmm interesting. Wonder how that will influence their driver selection. I know that Honda wanted a Japanese driver this season, hence the appointment of Takuma Sato.

Why would they want Nick Fry in there instead of Dave Richards? is Fry got a more technical mind or something?

I dont really know much about the relationship between Prodrive and BAR

didn't Prodrive have a contract with BAR until 2005 or 2006?? After then Prodrive/Dave Richards hands over the reins to someone else??

I read something in F1 mag about Richards getting out of BAR.
It's all vague but there were hints at a say, more administrative,
roll in the sport. Problems tohugh RE: it's not what he planned.
Have to go and have a re-read.

Was all to do with what BAR will do when tobacco is banned on
the cars.
