This engine is in BMW's F1 race car. Stats are amazing !!
: engine weight, less than 90kgs.
: redline, 19,200rpm. 19,000rpm when racing.
: idle speed 4000rpm.
: air intake volume 1995 cubic metres per hour.
: maximum piston acceleration 10.000g.
: peak piston speed 40 m/s( ie 144km/h) average 25m/s.
: peak exhaust temp 950c.
: oil system designed for 4g plus lateral loads.
: full throttle operation at Monza, 73% of lap distance.
: distance between rebuilds 500kms.
: total number of components 5000, (about 1000 different.)
: total production of P83 engines 200. 10 taken to each GP.
Makes our V8 Supercars look sick !!
Previous ride: EBII V8 Manual Ghia spring roll.
Current ride: 1970 ZC 351 Fairlane Custom.. (estimated 350ftlb @ 2000rpm.. max torque 420ftlb at 4500rpm.. with standard exhaust manifold!)
nah seriously thats pretty nuts.. they're about 3.5 litres those v10s yeh?
yeh i seen pics of the pistons in them.. they're freaken tiny. anything else and they couldnt get the 19,000(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) rpm.. plus they're really really short for less friction hence the 500k rebuild thing. awesome motors made for one race, and made to win that one race.

3 litres & no engine changes for a race weekend from this season in F1.

I saw an article in MOTOR mad a couple of years ago about their previous F1 engine and it was 600kW at 18,000 RPM. The car + driver weighed in at 600kg. That makes for a nice ratio.
As for torque, I'd hazard a guess and say "not much". That'd be why it needs to rev so much to get those power figures. Given that it idles at 4,000 RPM tends to back up this theory (to me anyway ).

I read in a recent Auto Action about the BMW engine the power was in the low - mid 600's and the torque was around 320Nm!! Hence the reason why they need to use all the screaming revs!!!
torque??? who needs torque lolol the bmw p83 90 degree v10 produced 920bhp at 19,100rpm but due to these new rules of one engine per gp they are predicting that itll be around 860-870bhp at 18,500rpm and a little heavier but lap times will sill fall due to tyre development
