Ok not as a driver but as team manager/technical advisor/ P.R-"face" for one of the teams or of the Ford/FPV effort!

Allan Moffat won Bathurst 4 times and about the same number of ATCC in Falcon GTs. In the late 60s and 70s he was THE ford Hero! Any guy with that much experience, has to have something to offer.

A lot of fans over 30 grew up respecting and some of us Worshipping this guy (I admit, I'm one!). If Pee brock can generate so much interest and publicity, Imagine the hype if Moff was to come out fighting againt him for ford!

I reckon if Lowndes or Seto was to roll out Moff as team advisor the Media/TV would go nutso (an excuse to get that 77 1-2 finish all over the TV again, remind em oof the heritage!), the fans would queue down the street for autographs, photos etc.

All that would get sponsors desperate for their name on the door!
(and if they were to win.....let him drive 10 laps or so if they are well in front, Moffat wins Bathurst again!)

Even better how about a factory "Moffat Ford Dealer Team" (even if he is only figurehead) racing Falcon GTs in Nations Cup/GT-P 2003. Now that would stir up interest in Bathurst 24Hr..

Ok, he drove Mazdas and even one of them GMH things (shudder) for a while, but then Pee Brock drove BMW and FORDS, he was forgiven. Welcome home our hero!

I've never been a great fan of Moffatt, I always thought he was too hard on the cars. He came across quite arrogant to me as well. I don't really know what input he would have to V8 SC (or any other category for that matter), it's a completely different world out there now compared to the seventies when he was racing.

Brocky continued to race well into the nineties, his last fulltime V8 drive was a VS Commodore which isn't a heap different to the current VX.

I guess you can argue that 'old fogies' like Howard Marsden and Fred Gibson are still around so why not Moffat but they have been involved with the V8s since day one and continue to do so where as Moffat has been out of the loop for about 20 years. Let him stick to selling tyres I reckon.

He's been out of direct involvement for about 10 years, yes still a long time I know. I think we should leave Moff in peace.

I can't accept your comment about him being hard on cars though. You are not confused with another Alan are you......Alan Jones that is.

I will have to stand corrected on the comment I made that Moffat was hard on cars. A couple of people have said that he was one of the best at looking after them. It was just an impression i formed from watching him race where the cars always seemed to be breaking down. It must of been the cars that were at fault, not the driver.

I can't say I know much at all about Alan Jones.

I think doing some demo laps in either the Mustang, GTHO or maybe even the 1-2 GT's, if they are still around, to help raise the profile of Ford plus signing some autographs would be useful. Perhaps also some commentary for the TV but I don't think Moff has a role to play with current V8 teams.

I think Moffat can make a significant contribution in the same way that Brock is doing with Team Brock. Allan knows how to give the sponsor the best value for dollar, he is well known amongst the Ford familyand maybe he could enthuse a team with his passion for race cars. That would be a real cunning stunt!
