Goodbye and good riddance

Channel Nine might have upset formula one fans by screening parts of Sunday's Italian Grand Prix twice (as we reported here yesterday), but soon it will not be able to.

Today's edition of Motorsport News will confirm that Nine will forgo the F1 rights at the end of this year, with Ten seemingly the only contender for 2003.

And it apparently will be a case of good riddance, a Nine source telling the magazine that when the decision was announced at a network sports staff meeting, it was greeted with cheering.

Not only was it costing the network heaps but staff had apparently grown sick of the "pedantic demands" of F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, whom one senior Nine executive described as "the hardest person I have ever dealt with".

Lets just hope that with all the motorsport and AFL, Channel 10 don't start having too many programmes with not enough air time (Steve remembers Channel 9 doing this in the past).

I won't be a happy camper if they shaft the bike coverage to show some boring as bat poo F1 coverage.

I am happy with the possible move but I am also treating it with caution. I too like watching the bikes and sometimes they overlap, I wonder which will take priority.

Channel 9 will probably show swimming in the the F1 timeslot, they seem to have a great love affair with snoring I mean swimming.

I just hope this rumour is true, I really can't stand Channel 9's coverage anymore. Our Forumula 1 coverage, in Australia, is a total joke.

I just hope that if Channel 10 do get the coverage they are able to do a decent job and are able to put the races on at decent time.

For more info on Aus F1 coverage check out this site www.f1fansvschannel9.com If you are an F1 fan I can't recommend this site enough. It really shows you just how poor Channel 9's coverage is.

Thank goodness they got rid of Channel 9. They're so up themselves sometimes. Yes, Channel 10 is the home motorsport! The part where they showed parts of Italian GP twice.....I thought I was in a timewarp or something!

Thank god F1 will no longer be on Channel Eddie!! Hopefully Ten will give us real coverage and not a 1/2 assed job.
