Steve Ellery and Super Cheap Auto Racing will boost future of V8 Supercar stars Owen Kelly (24) and Luke Youlden (23) by offering both young drivers a comprehensive test in the Super Cheap Auto Falcon next Tuesday 18 December at Queensland Raceway.

Ellery has plans on the table to expand the Queensland based operation within the next two years by taking on a young driver and has been considering the options open to the team.

In Kelly and Youlden, Ellery sees the opportunity to take on a young, talented team member who would live in Queensland and work with the team, act as a professional test driver and be fostered into the V8 Supercar series by Super Cheap Auto Racing.

But Ellery also explained that Kelly and Youlden and just two of the leading lights the team wants to test before springing the plan into action next year.

“These two are the bright stars in a big group of potentials. We’ve been thinking about who might fit the team since Bathurst and Owen and Luke are our first choices.

“We’re looking for someone who will slot well into the team. It won’t necessarily just be the fastest guy on track but rather someone who goes about their business in a professional way, they’d have to be kind on the car and be committed to the team and the opportunities we give them,” Ellery explained.

Ellery says that a position with the team would guarantee the test driver a start at the endurance races, even if the driver doesn’t join Ellery in the Super Cheap Auto Falcon Ellery says a prime position would be found for them.

Taking on a test driver is the first step in a comprehensive development plan the team has on the cards to increase the viability and success of the Super Cheap Auto Racing operation.

Sponsor Super Cheap Auto has reinforced it’s commitment to the team for season 2002 and Ellery says that sure sponsorship and commitment from all their sponsors will allow them to make huge improvements through R&D into 2002.

Ellery is still looking at other options that might help the team grow and become more competitive and says it’s an exciting time in the future of the team.

“It’s an exciting step in the future of Super Cheap Auto Racing and it’s will be a terrific opportunity for us to help some of our future Super Stars,” Ellery said, “I have no doubt both of these young guys will be more than up to the task.

“This year has been so outstanding for us and with the added focus on development I have no doubt we will be looking at podium spots in season 2002.”
