The V8 Supercar team run by Larry Perkins has been strengthened by the addition of exJordan Formula One team manager Jim Vale.
The 51yearold Victorian, who left ****** last season, will take over organisation for Castrol Perkins Racing.
Perkins last week announced he would quite driving fulltime and would contest only the occasional endurance race.
Vale played vital roles with both the ****** and Benetton Grand Prix teams over a 24year working period in England.
He was chief mechanic at Toleman (later Benetton) when world champion Ayrton Senna began his F1 career and at ****** when Michael Schumacher started.
Vale had been team manager at ****** for the past four years.
He described his job with Perkins as "a new challenge."
Perkins said he could no longer direct all aspects of his team.
"The business of racing has become too big for someone like myself to be owner, driver and director.
"To continue to grow and remain competitive, we need someone who had sound management experience and skills in motor racing like Jim Vale," Perkins said.
Meanwhile, talented young Queenslander Paul Weel will partner Marcos Ambrose in his Pirtek Falcon in this year's major V8 endurance races.
The duo will contest the Queensland 500 on September 1315 and the Bathurst 1000 on October 710.
