Ford-Jordan in 2003?
According to reports in this week's Autosport magazine, Jaguar Racing could have direct competition next season in the form of ‘Ford-Jordan'. The British magazine is reporting that Ford, Jaguar's parent company, is planning a three year deal with the currently Honda powered Jordan team starting in 2003 with an official announcement due prior to the Hungarian Grand Prix.
As unlikely as one may think this to be, pitting two of their own teams against each other, the logic behind it is sound in the fact that with all the money being spent at Jaguar with very little results, the direct competition could be enough to spur both teams on to achieve improved performances. If the said deal does go through, the logo of the company, the famous blue oval, would be proudly displayed on both cars powered by the Cosworth V10. :s5
It was widely known that Eddie Jordan was interested in acquiring Cosworth power if they lost Honda engines to their rivals at BAR, an almost certain eventuality and Toyota have also confirmed that Jordan has enquired about the use of their V10 for the future. Asiatech was another option for the Silverstone based squad, but is said to be the last option.
