Massive Geelong Street Party to Support Ford at Bathurst
Bathurst may be 1000 kilometres away, but the sight and sound of the V8 Supercars will be felt in downtown Geelong on Sunday 7 October with a massive street party to coincide with Australia’s great race
The Ford Discovery Centre, the Ford Motor Company and the City of Greater Geelong have combined to stage a great day for race fans to show their support for Ford Racing.
All the action will be screened live via the Ten Network on an 8.3 metre x 5.2 metre big screen erected in Gheringhap Street Geelong outside the Ford Discovery Centre.
“As well as the live Bathurst coverage, fans will also get to see some of the great moments of Bathurst as well as Ford Racing which is celebrating its 100th worldwide anniversary,” said Margot Stork Director of the Ford Discovery Centre.
“The entire street will be closed off with food and drink stalls operating - the Discovery Centre will be open from 7.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.
“Ford Tickford Racing will display a V8 Supercar, identical to that being raced that same day at Bathurst in the hands of Glenn Seton, Steve Richards, Jim Richards and Dean Canto.
“An extensive range of Ford, Ford Racing and team merchandise will be on sale and there will be regular auctions of merchandise and photographs signed by Ford race drivers.
“This will be a real family day with rides set up for the children nearby. The venue is also close to the famous Geelong Carousel, Waterfront precinct and National Wool Museum.”
“So there is plenty of entertainment for the whole family within walking distance.”
Ford car clubs across Victoria and around Australia have been invited to be part of the Geelong V8 Bathurst day.
There will be a strict “no alcohol” ban in the viewing area, with the day designed to be a friendly, family club event. This will ensure that car club members and their families can enjoy a great day with other Ford fans in a real Team Ford environment.
For those who want to make a real weekend of the event the Ford Discovery Centre is staging special events on Saturday. These will include special showings of early Bathurst Ford victories, merchandise and displays.
For those wishing to travel to Geelong, plenty of accommodation to suit all budgets is available. Details are available from Geelong Otway Tourism on telephone 03 5223 2588.
