Thumbs down JFR/K Mart Commodores

From holdenmotorsport.com.au -

John Faulkner Racing has contracted with TWR Australia to enter two Holden Commodores under the Kmart Racing banner for the next three years.

Team owner John Faulkner will be responsible for the team's operations, with TWR supplying the cars, associated componentry, equipment, facilities, drivers and personnel for the years 2003, 04 and 05.

"This will be a big boost for my franchise and I'm looking forward to seeing some V8 Supercar trophies on my mantlepiece as soon as possible," an excited Faulkner said about the deal.

"The decision to contract with TWR hasn't been an overnight one, but I've come to the conclusion that I needed to acquire the benefit of extra expertise and broaden my operations if I am to seriously challenge the sport's leading teams," he said.

I know this is a ford forum but it is interesting that TWRA now have another franchise next year. We really need that Prodrive factory team to take it up the these guys.

This wiil be to get around the rule that they can only have 2 cars per franchise next year.

HRT have the 2 HRT cars. JFR has the 2 K-Mart Cars. Don't know where that leaves the Young Lions car.

Currently as it is TWR has two franchises. One is HRT and the other Is KMart. HRT has three cars (2 x HRT 1 x HYL) and Kmart has 2 (2 x Kmart). This gives them 50 test days per year to share the feedback from the test days and the race days. Even though the cars are prepared in different workshops, the intellectual development of the cars are all done under the TWR banner. Effectively with JFR (the franchise owner) coming under the TWR umbrella, then their will be 60 test days and race days for data and development. The challenge for AVESCO and TEGA is to handicap the franchises which come under the one owner. It is obvious that the development of the car has an enormous impact in the ability of debut drivers or their siblings, to be able to peel off much faster times than much more experienced drivers.
It is obvious that this has benefits for TWR and it's franchises, look at the domination of the sport by TWR owned franchises at the expense of other Holden Teams and Ford Teams.
Unless something is done very quickly, V8 Supercars is headed for a a rapid decline. The series is already in a tail spin!!

So where does that leave Todd Kelly and Murphy?

I don't know, maybe Crennan will come up with something like "King John Racing". I don't think that Murph would go anywhere from the TWR umbrella and Kelly would have to stay as he has been the professional 'blocker' all year.

As long as the franchise owner is different, as there is only one franchise per owner. TWR fund all the franchises under their umbrella but are not the named owner of the franchise. I don't think their is a restriction on the naming rights sponsor. As far as franchise owners if you look at the examples then you might see what I'm saying. Dick Johnson - Shell Helix Racing, Bob Forbes Corp. - 00 Motorsport, Larkham Motorsport - Orrcon Racing etc.

All 5 cars are under ONE franchise.

Sorry mate, I was only giving the information about the franchises as it was given to my by AVESCO. I made this enquiry earlier this year with them and that is what they told me Apologies if I'm wrong.
