Colin McRae's slim prospects disappear as he crashes in the opening leg of the Rally of New Zealand. McRae misunderstood his navigator and crashed the Ford Focus.
"I misunderstood a pace note and went into a downhill right hand bend in third gear instead of second. We slid off and hit a fence post" said McRae.
I'm guessing Fords hopes have all but dissapeared now although the Peugeot's seem to have already had everything pretty much under control.

I wonder if that incident was the straw that broke the camel's back in regards of McRae and Grist going their own seperate ways?

I would guess that it played some part in it The Stylist. Hard to get used to the knew nick J-Type hehe.
Ford hasn't signed McRae for next season either.
