NASCAR 04th July Weekend 2003

Those of you who have Foxtel or a similar, perhaps unapproved, service (he he) here's the times for this weekend.

Fox Sports 2
Sunday 0900-1300hrs
NASCAR Winston Cup Pepsi 400 Live

Monday 0400-0700
Pepsi 400 replay

Here's hoping our man Matt Kenseth continues to whoop Chevy a$$!

This is the first race for NBC so unlike Fox we may have "Boogity Boogity" withdrawals LOL

Damn I wish I didn't open this thread..... Only up to the first pit stops on my tape.

As for those who say NASCAR is useless driving in circles etc I say there is NOTHING as impressive as 43 cars driving within inches of each other three wide at over 300km/h with restrictor plates meaning they never back off the throttle.

Absolutely awesome!

Yeh it was exciting to watch, especially when you have 10+ different leaders.

I noticed one team had a plastic sheeting across windscreen similar to the tearoffs you have on helmets. I thought it was a cool idea when i saw it.

They all use the tear offs since the change to perspex windshields. years ago they used glass but with breakages etc and NASCAR's rules to use glass many teams fitted a perspex screen inside the glass one causing other issues like misting etc. NASCAR finally got the hint and a rule change allowed the plastic screens, however at such speeds and in a racing environment pitting and dirt/oil caused other problems. the solution is tear offs which the teams can remove at pit stops. The problem is that these take time to peel off and so later on in the race NASCAR normally allows the teams to send an extra man over the wall purely for removing tear offs and thereby enhancing safety for the drivers.

I finished watching the race - simply awesome watching cars run at those speeds and so close. It's like an adrenalin charged game of chess.

My man kenseth pulls further into the points lead too! :s6:

Re: NASCAR 04th July Weekend 2003

I had a 'freaky moment' whilst watching this LIVE on Sunday morning when about 5 laps from the end I thought that I had seen a news report where the green car of Labonte had run out of fuel on the last lap and the rookie Ford driver had come through for his maiden NASCAR win. I was pissed off as I thought the race was advertised a LIVE so I checked my Foxtel guide and found that it WAS advertised as being live. I initially thought that Foxtel was lying and thought nothing of it until I saw the race report on Ten's Sports News later that day. It FREAKED ME OUT to say the least.

Was great racing though....
