NZ 2005: Street race? AKL or WLG?

Ok, so AVESCO is saying come 2005 when the pukekohe contract is up, a street race in wellington or auckland will be the preferred option.

What are your thoughts?

I would like to see the Wellington Street Race Resurrected for a number of reasons.

1. I live close (heheh)
2. It's the most central location, possibly meaning bigger crowds
3. It has history (Nissan Mobil 500)
4. Auckland has had pukekohe ...

Re: NZ 2005: Street race? AKL or WLG?

You have got to be kidding! - An Auckland CBD/Waterfront circuit would be bloody awesome. Wellington is a wannabie Auckland, and could not handle the V8Supecars like Auckland can. With 1.4 million people (1.39999 more then Wellington) and everything Wellington can only dream of having, Auckland will host a street race (if there will be one and everything suggests there will be), quite possibaly alongside Pukekohe.

Why Auckland should have it:

1. The CBD/America's Cup Waterfront is world class and would make the Wellington waterfront look like Wellington's waterfront...Hang on.
2. We can accomodate the thousands of motorsport fans that'll came in by the truckload from all over the country.
3. We have the Chics.
4. It's Auckland people.
5. Auckland is New Zealand.

Why Wellington should'nt host it:

1. WelliWhere?
2. Always rainy and windy.
3. Borring.
4. Ugly "chics"
5. The Beehive is the most intresting thing there.
6. Polititians.
7. WelliWhere?
8. It's not Auckland.

Wonder how many people this will piss off?!

Re: NZ 2005: Street race? AKL or WLG?

Wellington would be the go because:

1. It's not Auckland
2. There are no Aucklanders there
3. It's not Auckland
4. It's not Auckland
5. best city in NZ for entertainment - bars, restaurants, cafes
6. It's not Auckland
7. I used to live there

The old street race there was great, I remember going to do the shopping down at the singles supermarket by Oriental parade and having a squiz at the cars going past.

Only concern would be if they could still get the circuit in with all the new development down there and whether it would be big enough for 32 V8 Supercars. The little M3s , Vls and Sierras went around there ok. Still remember I think Longhurst stacking the M3 coming off the bridge and his head breaking the window.
