It looks like in the next 3- 5 years,Sydneys' oldest raceway will close.According to this weeks Auto Action, beacuse of the proposed land release in the area, the race circuit will be closing.Unfortunately,I don't have the mag to quoote it directly, but the gist of it goes like this,
With the expected land release in the Narellan area,Oran Park Raceway will be closing in the next 3-5 years. The family who own the circuit also own several hectares of dairy land in the area. When the pit buildings were updated a few years ago, they were built with partabilty in mind { me thinks the family knew something was up}.Apparently they are very keen to continue their association with motorsport and have plans to build a new circuit {subject to development approval of course} in the area that was once proposed for the secomd airport.I don't think it was Badgery's Creek,I will post the article properly when I get the magazine.
I also read with interest that it has only been 6 years since Amaroo Park Raceway has been closed and re-developed,seems a lot longer to my mind. But then the article in AA only confirmed the rumours that I heard at the track in August of this year.
I would love a dollor for every lap ive done at that track!! A very sad day when that track goes, it will be missed...........

It's been known that it would happen for awhile but it still is a real shame it is so much better the EC to watch motorsport at & I'd be willing to bet any new curicuit wont be as good either.
Damn shame.
Love that left hander on to the straight, the historics were four
wheel drifting out to within inches of the wall, bulls*&t to
watch.
You can see nearly the whole circuit from the concrete at the
start of the straight. Was very impressed by the track, the
racing it produced.... everything.
Thems the breaks though I guess, bring on the new track.
Same owners for it and they're motorsport nuts apparently.
Might be a good thing all said and done, as Haza said, bring
on the world class facility.
Update here...
Apparently the Perich family who own Oran Park have land at Wilton. Not sure exactly where the land is but let's hope that we will get a circuit every bit as good if not better than OP.
I live just 5 mins away from Oran Park and they have been saying it is closing for the last 10 years, it just seems to keep going on and on. It is true that Harrington Park (close estate) is getting bigger and bigger and will prob eventually reach all the way up to there, but the threat and talk has been surrounding the track for ever.
As for the Perich family building another race track at Wilton, I wouldn't get your hopes up. The family hasn't spent any money out of their billions for years and would be very unlikely to fork out serious cash to build another race track. The only reason the new pit garages even got built out at Oran Park is because Tony Cochrane threatened to give the track the ass off the V8 supercar callendar until they did something to improve pit facilities.
