Perkins sells V8 licences

V8 SUPERCAR legend Larry Perkins has stunned motor racing circles by selling his racing licences on the eve of the famous Bathurst 1000 race.

Perkins, who raced until last year while he built up one of the strongest racing teams in the sport, has sold out to Gold Coast businessman Craig Gore.

Perkins sold two level-one V8 licences, conservatively worth $1 million each. Each licence entitles the owner to race a car in the lucrative V8 Supercar circus and to share in the profits.

Perkins' deal with Gore will be effective at the end of the current racing season.

For the remainder of this year, including next month's Bathurst 1000, "it will be business as usual" Perkins said.

Insiders say the deal is a win-win situation for both men.

The flamboyant Gore is seeking to expand his position in the sport and has plenty of money to splash around while the shrewd Perkins is bound to have secured the best monetary deal for his licences.

Perkins Motorsport currently runs three cars in the V8 series.

Perkins said last night he had made arrangements to lease licences to race next year.

"Arrangements are in place to continue our race plans in the same manner we have always done," Perkins said yesterday.

"Our commitment to major sponsors Castrol and Holden remains totally unaffected while the nucleus of our team personnel and driver line-ups will also be unchanged."

Perkins will field three cars at Bathurst with Steven Richards as his lead driver, sharing a car with his father Jim, another legend in the sport.

The deal means Perkins is taking a step backwards from the management of V8 Supercar racing after a season which has seen him in almost constant conflict with the board of the sport.

Gore breezed into motor sport this year just as the season opened and currently campaigns at only a Level 2 licence level with the WPS racing car driven by David Besnard.

Larry's no dummy. He must be so over all the head butting with TEGA or just maybe he sees a use by date for the V8 Super Taxis and he is cashing in while the going is good.
My thoughts exactly!!!

Saw this in the Daily Telegraph yesterday.I think it's a case of Larry "the lip" building a bankroll in case he has more run-ins with TEGA/AVESCO & co.{lawyers fighting fund ya know}.
I understand he has {currently}3 licences and is selling 2.
