Plan B - Lets hope Ford start announcing their wins in the press
I agree with earlier posts that the Ambrose incident certainly suggests that there are rules for one make and rules for another. Even if the first hit was a racing incident the second doesn't look like one to me.
Anyway Marcus looks the only hope for a Ford champion but we can expect him to be singled out for special Holden and AVESCO attention. Given his loss of potential points from bad luck and a punt to date, what hope have we of a series champion winner. Sorry if this sounds pessimistic.
Seems to me the game may become one of winning more races than Holden. We don't seem to be in position where Ford have enough consistent runners to stop Skaife amassing enough points to win the championship, but we do on the day have a group of drivers who could pull out wins, with a bit of luck and good strategy to supplement Ambrose's likely future wins. Our consistency problem is not so much one of lack of talent but the number of AUs still running while BAs get produced. Also the transition rules for the Vx to VY change help Holden as AU's were never competitive and can't be moded over.
Consequently I think Ford should be advertising every round or race win and letting the championship stakes wait. Those Ford Win posters on Craig's car were great advertising and that would have been a great newspaper ad picture. Who cares if Skaife wins the crown; if Ford can run an ad saying we won more rounds and if we did win more rounds we get the benefit of regular crowing rights and lots of winning ads. If we don't look like being regular winners this year then sure Ford can go quiet. I doubt Ford crowing will mean more Holden ads as they will probably promote their wins regardless and lets be honest the average punter in the street doesn't follow the championship standings throughout the year and the press continually talk Skaife up.
If Ford don't promote their wins then the average punter will most likely hear Skaife is headed for another crown and not know Ford have been doing the business more broadly on the track. Look at things this far. Ford can claim 3 race wins and 1 leading while stopped against Holden's 2 race wins (Counting the AGP races) (or 1 round win each).
Poster thing all over the place:
FORD - #1 on the track
Ford has 25 wins against Holden's 12

Talking about the press, away on holidays i was really hard pressed to findout who one the race until i got onto the internet. I watched the news at several different times and no mention, one service even mentioned the champ car, rally and the nascar, no mention of the V8's, What the hell?
I have to admit I was looking on the news to and there was no coverage. If it were a Holden that won, it be a different story!
Now about the championship points, I really don't care who wins the championship, as long as Ford can say that they beat Holden on more occasions than what they did.
The championship points is just a thing to decide who has the bigger dick at the end of the races.
Also whats with the the pointing system, you get 200 points for winning a race (that won't be exact) but why is it, that the points have to be so big? It should be like the F1's, 10 for first place and then the points get lowered for each other placing!
(I do know that some people do think the same way, but some don't)
Anyway, I do hope that Ford do advertise their win. They won the round, let everyone know about!Just to piss the Holden fans off and make them more eager and then get beaten once again!
Thats all I gotta say about things for a bit,
Cheers

Points are so high up the pointy end of the grid, becausethe oints are distributed right down to last place.

I don't agree with that. I have paid attention to the coverage V8Supercars get on the 6:00 news and its sparce whether its a Ford or Holden win.
In the days of the Nissan Group A team, the Nissan marketing department used to have full page ads booked in the major dailies for the Monday and/or Tuesday after a touring car race weekend.
If the Nissan won on the weekend, they ran the race cars in the papers with the story of the event, congratulating themselves I suppose, but certainly translating their motorsport success into the mainstream publications for all and sundry to see.
There is nothing stopping a Ford or a Holden doing similar things, indeed Holden does very little in this area to communicate its individual race successes, instead taking the globalised Holden Motorsport approach to all media in this area, covering all teams.
The major dailies are generally dreadful in giving the Supercars a balanced coverage, if any at all. Perhaps this is something the collective marketing minds at Ford, Holden & AVESCO should put some resource behind?
