I heard on the radio this morning Richard Burns 2001 World Rally Champion has a brain tumour & won't be competing next year he was due to return to Prodrive Subaru after driving driving a 206 for the last 2 years.
While not being a Ford driver I still wish him all the best. This year continues t be a shocker for motorsport I was still not over hearing the loss of Big Pete on the weekend & now another could be struck down in his prime.

This came to light when he blacked out while driving to the RAC Rally (British WRC round). Markko Martin was a passenger in the car and had to grab the wheel. Obviously he was then unable to compete in the rally, and speculation while the cause of the blackout was still unknown was that it may have been the end of his career. You never like to hear of these things happening to people & I wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Now, I wonder what Subaru’s 2004 driver line-up will be?

I have heard the Colin McRae is one driver that Subaru are considering to replace Richard for next year.

"Tests have revealed that 2001 World Rally Champion Richard Burns has an Astrocytoma and will not be able to contest the 2004 World Championship.

Burns will undergo a course of radiotherapy which doctors are confident will prove successful. He was forced to miss the Wales Rally GB earlier this month having blacked out while driving to Wales for the recce."


Apparently this condition can be fatal, although I have heard that Burns' case has been diagnosed reasonably early. It may explain his loss of form on teh previous few rallies. He's also very lucky that he had Markko Martin with him when he passed out on the motorway. Fortunately rally competitors are much friendlier that their roundy-roundy counterparts....

Yeah totally feel sorry for Richard Burns, no deserves that.

It would've been great to have seen him alkongside Petter Soleburg next year, and god I hope like hell Collin McRae dosn't get his drive with Subie!
