MotoGP star Valentino Rossi has confirmed he will compete in the season-ending Network Q Rally of Great Britain.

The Italian – currently setting the Moto GP Championship on fire, winning seven out of the eight races this season – says he's actually looking forward to being in the rain and fog of Wales because at least he will be dry inside the car!

"It should be real fun and there will be no problems because the MotoGP season will be over," said Rossi. "It will be an Italian team and we are now working to raise the money. Sure it will be cold and wet but I'll be sitting inside for once!"

wrc.com readers certainly rate the 23-year-old's capabilities in a rally car, in this week's pole 26 percent – almost 1000 people – believe the bike ace is capable of beating Colin McRae in a Formula 1 car and Michael Schumacher in a World Rally Car! Rossi is in Germany this weekend, competing in the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring.

Rossi will not be the only interloper on the season finale – Touring Car star James Thompson is eyeing a drive in a Group N Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 7.

"It's another part of the rallying learning curve," he said. "I've driven a Peugeot 106 Kit Car in the British Rally Championship and this is another way of broadening my rallying experience. The Rally GB is one of the toughest events on the British calendar and the prospect of taking part in something like an E7, and pitting myself against some of the best drivers in the world, is very appealing."


It was said on channel 10 that Rossi will drive a Peugeot 206 WRC car.
