A trail of oil left by Paul Weel has provided one of the most interesting line-ups for the Top 10 Shootout in recent years. Greg Murphy topped the times from Mark Skaife, but that all seemed incidental to the drama that was unfolding.
Weel went off at Kolb Corner, ripping an oil line from his Holden Commodore, leaving a trail of oil on the track that caused chaos. Steven Richards, Jamie Winchup and Russell Ingall all slipped off the track on the oil, Ingall damaging his car too badly to continue and languishing in 16th spot.
