i love it! im all for knocking thexton. read the article on him in aa, which was to help everyoen understand wat he was about. all it said to me that it takes money not skill to enter in v8's. my say: put big flashing lights all over his car to warn other drivers when they are near. if he's lucky, he will qualify in all rounds this year (105 or 100% rule). i think he should go back to the konica's to prove himself.
and before anyone says it, yes her did alright at bathurst last year but only due to being that far off the pace he didnt need to take any risks.
im sure he's probably a better driver than me in a v8 supercar, i know i cant drive like a v8supercar driver so i stay my ass off the track! if you cant sing, dont be a singer, it u cant dance, dont be a dancer, if u cant drive a v8 supercar within similar times or everyone else......well u get the point anyway.
Okay I'm not sure of this... but from what I understand:
He used to own a major juice (Arano?) company in NZ (yes he's a Kiwi...) and sold out to CocaCola? With the money he made a new company which he promotes at the moment, anyways he's always loved motorsport blah blah blah and his dream was to own/drive a V8Supercar in the SCS, which he came into the money and did so.
What bugs me, is the man is useless, but rich. And that is effictively how he gtot into the series. From what I know he hasn't had much at all in the form of motorsport in the past and anything major to prepare him for the highest form of motorsport in Oz. He is so much slower than the field in the SCS, but what appauled me more was him in the NZ Touring Car Series over the summer here, he ran a new BA and was pure and utter sh*t in that too! - He has no skill or common sense on the race track, even being lapped by many of the inexperienced drivers here in NZ - AND THIS DUMBA** THINKS HE'S GOOD ENOUGH TO RACE AGAINST THE LIKES OF AMBROSE & SKAIFE and the rest!
It makes my blood boil I tell ya.. I'm not sure if he's racing in the season opener this weekend, but if he is, my predictions are: either a) he will t-bone Skaife while being lapped for the second time trying to get back onto the track after being stuck in the gravel or b) take out 3 of the best Ford drivers in one go while been lapped on the 4 lap of the race.
I'm embarresed on two accounts; 1. he drives a Ford, 2. he's a Kiwi.
Thexton may not be the brightest bulb on the circuit, but before you guys hurl too much shite check the following list.
a) Thexton has a full Cams competition license. Do you?
b) Thexton has put the effort into his sport to attain cash and sponsorship to allow him to even consider running. How much could you get together?
c) To actually race Thexton has done lap times within a pecentage of the leaders. and the margins are tight. How close do you think the armchair racers would get?
Before you bag the stragglers of the sport, give a little consideration to the efforts made to get as far as they do.
Can any of you guys honestly say you would pass up a drive even if you were towards the back of the pack? And I dont know about you but I'd even do it in one of them other cars (you know the ones that burn oil).
I think ther are times stewards should consider calling tail enders like thexton in when they drop way below the average speed. But its still the responsibility of front runners to weave thru them. Yeah I agree Thex could do with a bit more rear view skills, but its easy to call from the comfort of sofa and ale.
I've got more time for some of these guys having a go than I have for the "my daddy bought us both a race team" kind of jock who get handed the rides.
Guys like Larko can get his car, (or now his team) into or near the the top 10s, and they have a fraction of the top budgets. The tail runners are working on less $$ again.
Maybe Konica would be a better spot for Thexton, but then with the big budget teams starting to use it to bed drivers, it may be just a well for a small budget deal to try straight for level 1.
Give thexton just a tiny bit of respect he's got a lot further than most of you have.
And while you may be right in saying Mr Thexton used his own personal dollars to compete, it is no better or worse than the Kellys, the Noskes, the Weels, the Ellerys, the Morrises... from owning their own operation and having a go.
I don't think it's right to bag the bloke, we're supposed to be a country that supports the underdogs and loves seeing them get up, however it's a strong argument that asks him to drop to Konica. If it's pure fact that he'll never get off the back row of the grid AND there is someone to take his spot on the grid who will be competitive, then common sense says drop him to B grade. Is it his skills or the car he drives holding him up?? Is he funded similar to other lower grid teams or does he only just have the cash to front?

Exactly! And you have to be somewhere within the times after qualifying to make the grid. Fall below and you put the car back on the trailer. Make the times and staywithin the rules and you deserve your spot even if you skill level is at the max just to bag last spot. I dont see PP99 racing being robbed of any spot.
it's not worth taking any pics of, just a plain white car with thexton.com.au or something written across the bonnet an sides. I didn't see him racing on sat an sun so i don't think he made the 105% cutoff on fri. He should sell his setup to WPS so both Bessie an the other fella in the team can run at all races.
