Defending Grand Prix motorcycling champion Valentino Rossi of Italy has captured his second win in three starts this year, with a victory in the 500 cc class at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Rossi rode his Honda to a record-equaling fourth victory at the Jerez circuit Sunday, despite bumped by another rider on the second lap and almost getting knocked off the track. He finished the 27-lap race in just under 46:52, at an average speed of almost 153 kilometers per hour.
Daijiro Katoh of Japan captured second place, 1.19 seconds back, while Rossi's teammate, Tohru Ukawa was third. Rossi is dominating the standings after three races with 70 points. Ukawa, his closest competitor, has 41 points in second place. Katoh is third in the standing with 39 points.
Spaniard Alfonso Nieto won the 250 cc race in just over 46:03, averaging almost 150 kilometers per hours.
