ford race the XR bodyshape in the supercars to establish a link between their sportscar range (the XR's) and their motorsport prescence (V8 supercars). The AUII/AUIII nosecone was not implemented because Howard Marsden decided the difference between the nosecones was too little and the expense to convert it to the new one was too great, or so I have heard.
Ford wanted to use the XR front end to promote the more sporty Tickford range.
As for the AU1 bits still on the cars, maybe the money is better spent on other things
The teams would have to modify all their front spoilers as the grill is part of the spoiler and IMO it would be hardly noticable
The tail lights are different on AUII/III aswell i think and i would say that the teams have a stock of AUI tailights and will just use them up until AUIII lights start trickling through
edit:oh, seems u got there one min b4 me Donut King
A while ago now I thought it would be a novel idea to have all the various models in the V8 supercars, AU1 Forte thru to Fairmont,XR. But I suppose it would cause Homaglation headaches.
Russell.
This was the biggest attrocity of pre-AU Falcons in the Supercar series - that they were using bloody GLi front ends! Imagine how horny the EF/EL Supercars would have been if they had used XR front ends..
An absolute disgrace!

As for the difference between the AUI,AUII,AUIII bits - I never even noticed they were running AUI spoilers. And to be honest, I dont think it even slightly matters.
I mean, the cars are belting around a track, and except at promotional days you generally dont see them up close - and theyre often mockups anyway.
I dont think Joe Public would realise which front end/rear end the V8Supercars were running. I didnt, but I dont watch the V8Supercars to see what nosecone they run - I watch it for the racing. Just as long as it looked like a race car version of an XR is all that matters. Which it does.
