The Daily Auto Insider
September 18, 2002
Ford will discontinue the Explorer Sport after the 2003 model year, The Detroit News reported, citing a source at Ford's Louisville Assembly Plant, which makes the SUV.
The two-door Ford Explorer Sport is based on a decade old chassis and was not redesigned along with the four-door Explorer for the 2002 model year.
Ford sold 49,990 Explorer Sports through August, up 9 percent over last year, according to J.D. Power and Associates. In its best years, it accounted for more than 100,000 annual sales.
