Asia: Ford Everest Unveiled In Indonesia At Gaikindo Auto Expo

Ford Motor Indonesia previewed its exciting new product, the Ford Everest – a 7-seater family SUV – at Jakarta’s Gaikindo Auto Expo 2003. The Ford Everest is the ideal family vehicle as it fulfils the need for safe, comfortable, flexible and affordable family transportation. Ford Everest projects a strong and tough image with its high ride height and substantial proportions that give it a commanding road presence. It will be available in Indonesia from September 2003.

Following its successful launch in Thailand, Ford Everest is set to be equally popular in Indonesia. It has been specially designed and engineered to meet the needs of the Asian consumer.

Commenting on the launch at the 2003 Gaikindo Auto Expo, Will Angove, the President of Ford Motor Indonesia, explained, "The Everest appeals to customers who are ready to consider the purchase of a more sophisticated family product that provides versatile usage and refined vehicle dynamics. It’s a vehicle that has been developed to meet the needs of this customer group and it offers a luxurious interior, is big on feature specifications and provides exceptional value for money."

As Ford’s latest addition to its growing family of sport utility vehicles, the Everest extends Ford’s claim to offer the broadest and most far-reaching line-up of SUVs on the planet. The Everest joins the ranks of it predecessors including the world’s best-selling SUV, the Ford Explorer, as well as the Explorer Sport Trac, Expedition and Escape.

The Everest’s tough exterior styling is characteristic of its Ford SUV heritage, and offers a commanding road presence. The interiors are class-leading in comfort and spaciousness with its dual, front and rear air-conditioning system, tiered seating and high equipment levels. It provides protection for the family with integrated safety equipment and boasts best-in-class ride and handling for greater passenger comfort.

The Ford Everest is available in three models: Everest XLT 4x2 MT and AT, and Everest Limited 4x4 AT. All models are powered by Ford's class–leading 2.5L inter-cooled turbo diesel.

In conjunction with global celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Ford Motor Company, Ford also invited Ford fans to share in its centennial celebrations at the motor show. Visitors to the Ford stand will have a chance to view Ford’s unique global history from its early days through to the arrival of Ford Everest.

"This is the second year that Ford has participated in the Gaikindo Auto Show and we are looking forward to having an extremely successful week. We’re introducing Everest, celebrating our 100th anniversary and have a fantastic line up of products to showcase. Gaikindo is an important event for us and based on last year’s success, we are looking forward to talking to lots of customers and of course selling a lot of cars," commented Will Angove, President Director of Ford Motor Indonesia.

Visitors to the Ford stand at this year’s motor show will also be exposed to a groundbreaking new stand design for Ford Motor Company that is being showcased in Indonesia before being rolled out across the Asian region. It truly embodies the Ford ‘No Boundaries, Can Do Spirit’ with its dynamic and vibrant design.

In addition to the Ford Everest, other products line up showcased in the 2003 Gaikindo Auto Expo include the tough Ford Ranger pick-up with recently launched new models, the Ford Lynx 1.8L DOHC– an elegant looking sedan with exhilarating performance, and the stylish and modern SUV, the Ford Escape 3.0L and 2.0L.

As part of its commitment to Indonesia, Ford now has six Ford Superstores open throughout Jakarta and last month opened its first dealership in Sumatra, Ford Palembang Superstore. It will be opening its next dealership in Pekanbaru and it plans to open a further 8 Ford Superstores by the end of 2003.

In addition, Ford dealers are able to offer a flexible, competitive range of finance options that will suit any customer. The service is offered through Ford Credit, a company that specializes in automotive financing. Ford Credit, the world’s largest automotive financer, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Ford Motor Company.

Ford Motor Company, headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, is the world’s second largest automaker, with approximately 335,000 employees in 200 markets on six continents. Its automotive brands include Aston Martin, Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercury and Volvo. Its automotive-related services include Ford Credit, Quality Care and Hertz. Ford Motor Company observed its 100th anniversary on June 16, 2003.

Note to editor: Ford also offers a "Ford Nationwide Service Guarantee" on all Ford vehicles it sells. This means Ford customers can have their vehicle serviced or repaired anywhere in Indonesia, with genuine Ford parts. The service is available through a network of qualified service providers throughout the country, and if need be, Ford will fly one of its specialist technicians to the customer’s location to attend their needs.
