Car Price Reforms Delayed

K motorists will continue paying over the odds for their cars after Euro MPs voted to delay reforms for the way vehicles are sold.

Consumer organisations had hoped changes to the block exemption rule – which allows manufacturers to control where and by whom their products are sold – would get the go-ahead.

This could have seen the average price for a UK car could drop by about £2,000, but major car manufacturers from Germany, France and Italy lobbied MPs to postpone the planned changes until 2005.
