De Tomaso Dies at 75
Automotive News reports that famed auto personality Alejandro De Tomaso has died. De Tomaso, the founder of the car company of the same name and a racing figure from the 1940s and 1950s, died Wednesday in Modena, Italy. His career began racing in the 1940s, and by 1965, De Tomaso had designed and built his own vehicles. Early in the 1970s, he provided a sportscar to be sold under the Lincoln-Mercury brand to Ford Motor Company - the Pantera. De Tomaso had been ill for some time, after having suffered a stroke in 1993. He is survived by his wife and three sons.
