Earth, Wind & Fire, the legendary musical group and recent inductees of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, today was added to Ford Motor Company’s THE ROAD IS OURS 100th Anniversary Celebration concert series. The band will open the series with a live performance Friday night, June 13 on the grounds of the Henry Ford II World Center in Dearborn.
Known for their unique combination of musical styles, Earth, Wind & Fire is one of the most successful musical groups of all time. The group, which has earned six Grammy Awards and four American Music Awards, achieved more than 50 gold and platinum albums over the past 25 years. This May they will release their first new album in six years, "Promise of the New," on Kalimba Records.
"Earth, Wind & Fire's powerful music adds a distinctive sound to our concert series," said Gary Nielsen, executive director, Ford Centennial Operations. "Just as Ford's product line-up appeals to a broad audience so, too, will the musical entertainment we've lined up to celebrate our 100 years."
The Detroit Symphony Orchestra, accompanied by a dazzling fireworks display, will follow Earth, Wind & Fire’s performance.
The 100th Anniversary concert series, part of the June 12-16 celebration, continues on Saturday night, June 14, with a live performance by Beyoncé Knowles, lead singer of the multi-Grammy winning pop R&B group Destiny's Child. Country music superstar and devout Ford Truck man, Toby Keith will close out the concert series on Sunday, June 15.
