Jaguar eyes crossover model, not SUV, CEO says

BARCELONA -- British luxury carmaker Jaguar is considering whether to expand its model lineup by offering a "crossover" vehicle that combines the characteristics of cars and sport-utility vehicles, its top executive said on Thursday.
"I think what is loosely defined as the crossover segment has rather more potential for us than an SUV, where we already have good competitors," said Joe Greenwell, chairman and chief executive of Ford Motor Co brands Jaguar and Land Rover.
He gave no more details, but said any new vehicle's design would have to meet Jaguar's premium philosophy.
Greenwell was responding to a question at the Automotive News Europe conference on whether Jaguar might build an SUV, as other premium carmakers such as Porsche, DaimlerChryler and BMW have done.
