Explorer Rules in Frontal Crash Tests

When it comes to safety, you could say the 2002 Ford Explorer is in a class by itself. After all, the 2002 Explorer has received the highest crash test ratings in its class — twice — based on its performance in the industry’s two major crash tests.

The 2002 Explorer (models built after 10/29/01) has earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s “Best Pick” award. In its 40 mph frontal offset crash test, Explorer outperformed all other major competitors in its class, including Chevrolet Trailblazer and Blazer, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango, GMC Envoy and Toyota 4Runner.

Explorer is also rated best in its class for front crash test performances by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. With a four-star driver and five-star passenger rating, Explorer leads its class in U.S. government crash test performance. None of its major competitors can match the Explorer’s performance in the industry’s two major crash tests.

Built with one of the most comprehensive safety and security packages available, Explorer is loaded with peace-of-mind features like available side curtain airbags*, energy management safety belts with pretensioners, upper tether child seat anchors and adjustable height second-row safety belts.

The 2002 Ford Explorer. When it comes to crash test performance and safety features, it’s in a class by itself.

*Always wear your safety belt and secure children in the rear seat.
